November Unplugged, Week 3: Shhh.

Finding Stillness in a Nonstop World

You’re 16 days in! Give yourself a high five—seriously, you’re doing amazing. This week, let’s turn our attention inward.

With everything going on in the world (and in your mind), finding even a moment of stillness can sometimes feel impossible. Trust me, I’ve been there—some days, my brain feels like a pinball machine. But meditation has helped me quiet the noise, even if only for a little while.

For the longest time, I couldn’t sit still for more than 10 minutes. I would get so frustrated when thoughts entered my mind. "Go away!," I'd say to myself, "I'm supposed to be meditating. Wait - I shouldn't be thinking at all. UGH!" A yoga instructor once gave our class a helpful tip to approach our thoughts during meditation:

Imagine you’re standing on an overpass, watching cars on the highway.

You see them pass by, but you don’t focus on any one car.

Thoughts are inevitable. Acknowledge the thoughts, let them pass, and gently bring your focus back to your breath.

Why Meditate?

Meditation isn’t about forcing yourself into calmness—it’s about meeting yourself where you are. Grounding is the tangible sensation of anchoring your body to the earth, feeling its steady embrace beneath you. Yet, it can also be the quiet strength of standing firm in our highest truth, feeling the sensation of being in our body and rooted in who we truly are. When we ground ourselves, we connect with silence, with our soul. It’s not about perfection; it’s about presence.

Even small, consistent moments of stillness can make a big difference. Try these ideas:

  • 1 minute before a meeting: Close your eyes, breathe, and reset.

  • In line at the store: Instead of scrolling your phone, notice your breath and reconnect with yourself.

  • Before bed: Let go of your thoughts, focus on your breath, and let your inhales and exhales guide you into sleep.

And if your brain refuses to cooperate? That’s okay. Be kind to yourself and try again later.

To Get You Started

If you're open to it, I’ve put together a guided meditation playlist. Whether you have 1 minute or 1 hour, there’s something here for you. I encourage you to make the practice yours. Whether you are sitting criss-cross applesauce, lying down, getting comfy on the floor against the couch, in your desk chair, or in a favorite spot outside, whatever you choose is right.

Remember, your mind will wander—that’s normal. The magic happens when you notice it, let go, and gently return your focus to the rise and fall of your breath. With patience and practice, meditation can feel like coming home to yourself. Give it a go this week. And if you find a moment of stillness, even for just one breath, celebrate that win.

xoxo,

Meghan
