Meet Brooke Kaplan, Endurance Athlete & Type 1 Diabetes Advocate

Brooke Kaplan was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 19, during her sophomore year at the University of Maryland, where she studied Spanish. She went on to earn her Master's degree in HR Management from the University of Maryland University College, and spent 14 years living and working in the DC metro area before relocating to South Florida, where she now lives with her husband and two dogs and spends summers at the Jersey Shore.
In 2016, Brooke began endurance running, a decision she made after her diagnosis, not in spite of the discipline it requires to manage type 1 diabetes, but because of it. She has since completed 10 half marathons and 7 full marathons, along with countless shorter races, and is currently training for her 8th full marathon.
Outside of running, Brooke is an avid traveler and longtime volunteer with the Junior League and BBYO. She joined Meghan on Wait — What Do You Do Again? to talk about chosen discomfort: why she keeps signing up for something this demanding, on purpose, and what that decision has taught her about readiness and resilience.
You can contact Brooke on TeamRunRun or LinkedIn.
