Meet Dr. Mikki Brock, Historian of Witchcraft & the Supernatural

Dr. Mikki Brock is a Professor of History at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, specializing in religious belief, gender, and identity in early modern Scotland, with a particular focus on the history of the supernatural, including witchcraft and demonology.


Background and Education

Originally from Texas, Dr. Brock earned her B.A. from the University of Kansas and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. She first became fascinated with Scottish history while studying abroad there as an undergraduate.


Research and Teaching

Dr. Brock's research focuses on questions of religious belief, gender, and identity in early modern Scotland, with a particular interest in the histories of the supernatural. She teaches and speaks widely on topics including demonology, witchcraft, and British history.


Beyond the Classroom

When she's not "professor-ing," Dr. Brock enjoys reading fiction, keeping up with politics, running, and exploring the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley.
