Your Happy Place

If you’re open to it, I’d like to start with a reflection:

Close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths. Connect to stillness.

When you’re there, think about your happy place.

  • Where do you feel happiest?

  • Where do you feel most yourself?

  • What does it look like?

  • Who are you with?

  • What do you feel?

Can you point to your happy place on a map? Is it a cozy ritual? Perhaps it's a memory you revisit?

This week’s podcast guest, Dr. Alan Mueller, started a wildly successful Etsy shop that literally points people to their happy place with laser-cut arrow signs to places like Disney, Hogwarts, or the Shire.

What started as a creative side gig became the bridge out of a traditional career and into the life he leads now as a speaker, consultant, and facilitator who helps people lead with emotional intelligence and intention.

Okay, think back to your happy place/s. Some of mine include dancing to music so loud my skeleton shakes, almost anything with my kids (almost….), learning new things, a cat purring on my lap or chest, cooking for others, traveling, experiencing the arts, and performing a one-woman car concert with the windows down and the AC on.

At first glance, those seem like moments or places. But these aren’t just activities to tick off a to-do list. They’re maps.

Maps that point you back to yourself. Maps to what it feels like to be alive, open, connected, and completely you. They hold the emotions and values we crave most.

In those moments, we’re not performing. We’re not producing. We’re being.

So that favorite city, the smell of eucalyptus during a walk in the woods, or dancing in the kitchen on a Friday night…

It’s only special because of you.

Because you bring your values, your memories, your presence to them.

We carry the magic. And we get to create it - wherever we go.

xoxo,

Meghan
